Huge Second Half Leads RV WashU Women's Basketball To Convincing Win Over Greenville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – What started off slow for the RV Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team turned into an offensive power showing as WashU turned an 11-point halftime lead into a 91-32 win over Greenville on Wednesday night inside the Field House.

Senior Jordan Rich led all scorers on the night with 17 points. She was one of four Bears to score in double figures, including junior Lexy Harris (14), junior Catherine Goodwin (13), and junior Alyssa Hughes (11). Every WashU player either scored or recorded a rebound in the win over the Panthers.

Greenville started the scoring in the first quarter and had the lead at 4-3 with 8:49 on the clock. However, it was the last time they would have the advantage over WashU. The Bears quickly went to work and had a two-point lead, 9-7, at 6:48 in the first quarter. WashU then extended it to an 11-point gap by the end of the quarter, 18-7.

The Panthers would hit a jumper at 8:38 of the second quarter, stopping a scoring drought of seven minutes and 10 seconds, cutting the lead down to nine. Scoring was at a premium for both teams the rest of the half as WashU saw their lead stretch to 13 before settling in for the 11-point lead at the break.

The Bears then came out strong in the second half, scoring 30 points in the third quarter alone. A pair of free throws at 4:37 by junior Amelia Rosin saw WashU reach a 20-point lead for the first time on the night. Just 3:31 later, the Bears saw their advantage reach 30 points on a jumper by Rich.

Leading by 32 going into the fourth, the Bears did not let up as 35 points were scored in the final 10 minutes. Even with several starters by this point taking a break, the scoring continued with the rest of the roster, and WashU led by as many as 59 points on a layup from first-year Maggie Helms with 1:37 left and again with 19 seconds left on a jumper from sophomore Tara Murphy; the latter giving the Bears the final 91-32 win.

Leading 55-32 in rebounding, WashU also had a 15-5 advantage in second-chance points. The Bears also led in points off turnovers (21-5), bench points (29-11), points in the paint (42-8), and fast-break points (16-2).

WashU is back on the road for the first time in two weeks this Saturday, Nov. 22, when the Bears visit Millikin for a weekend, non-conference contest. The game with the Big Blue is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Decatur, Ill.
