MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for day one of the three-day NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, Thursday, May 23.
Day one saw five events come to a conclusion. The Bears are tied for 12th with six points.
With half of the decathlon events in the books, junior
Loucas Xenakis sits in 17th-place with a total of 3,334 points.
Thursday's Top Finishers:
Pole Vault (Final):
- First year Peter Lichtenberger hauled in a third-place finish in the pole vault with his clearance of the 5.09m bar, good for All-American status
- Lichtenberger secured six team points for the Bears
- First year Hayden Kunkel tied for 10th in the event as he soared over the 4.84m bar
- Senior Tommaso Maiocco (4.53m) took 17th
100 Meters (Decathlon):
- Loucas Xenakis crossed the finish line with a mark of 11.66 to earn 20th
Long Jump (Decathlon):
- Loucas Xenakis registered a leap of 6.64m to secure eighth in the event
Shot Put (Decathlon):
- Loucas Xenakis notched a heave of 10.51m, which was good for a 21st-place finish
High Jump (Decathlon):
400 Meters (Decathlon):
- Loucas Xenakis placed 19th in the event with his 400-meter time of 52.56
Day two of the championships are set to begin tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET.
