ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team concluded its season with a 5-0 loss to No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer in the NCAA Division III Elite 8. With the loss, the Bears end a spectacular season in which they reached the program's sixth trip to the Elite 8, with a 19-5 record.
Doubles
No. 1 doubles duo of
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds fell to Lauren Rha and Nina Ye 8-2.
Karen Gao and
Eleanor Archer lost to Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Ainsley Heidbreder and
Emily Chiasson fell to Alex Coleman and Amelia Poor 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles
Nina Moravek lost to Rha 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Hanna fell to Markey 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Archer lost the first set at No. 2 singles to Nyakiriri Kanefu 4-6 and was trailing in the second set 2-3. Gao won her first set 6-3 at No. 4 singles and was trailing 4-3 in the second set.
Edmonds lost her first set at No. 5 singles to Ye 6-4 and was trailing 3-2 in the second set while Chiasson lost her first set 4-6 to Poor and was winning the second 4-2.
Pomona-Pitzer moves on to face No. 3 Chicago in the National Semifinal tomorrow at 4 p.m.
