ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated No. 23 Grinnell 5-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.

The Bears will face the winner of Sewanee and Kenyon tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the Sweet 16. With a win in that match, WashU will earn a spot in the Division III National Championship, which will also be held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center beginning on May 20.
Doubles
WashU took a 2-1 lead following doubles.
No. 19
Amber Edmonds and
Eliana Hanna beat Ioana Giannakou and Lily Perrin 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
No. 17
Karen Gao and
Eleanor Archer beat Erin Jarvis and Irene Agusti 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Ainsley Heidbreder and
Emily Chiasson fell to Paige Sargent and Isa Voinescu 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles
Karen Gao got the first point at singles for the Bears, topping Perrin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Archer followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Giannakou at No. 2 singles.
Nina Moravek clinched the match with a win over Agusti at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 4 singles, Edmonds fell to Sargent 7-6 (7-0) in the first set and was trailing 2-1 in the second set.
Chiasson won her first set at No. 5 singles, beating Utsah Kalra 6-5. She was winning the second set 5-3.
Katherine Johnston won the first set at No. 6 singles, topping Jarvis 6-1. She was leading the second set 6-5.
In total, the Bears have reached the regional final seven times in program history, most recently in 2021.
