Pilpil Crushes Two Homeruns as Softball Beats NYU 12-0

New York, N.Y. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team beat NYU 12-0 (five innings) on Friday afternoon in the first game of the UAA series. The Bears are now 14-7 overall with a 3-2 mark in conference play.
 
The Bears wasted no time against the Violets, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Sydney Schneider drew a one-out walk and then stole second, before scoring on a Natalia Pilpil single to right field. Taylor Geluck singled to center and Ashley Kennedy reached base on a fielding error by third to load the bases.
 
Kennedy Grippo hit a two-out single to left, scoring Pilpil and keeping the bases loaded. All three runners advanced a base on a passed ball, with Geluck scoring. Brooke Capparelli was hit by a pitch and Maggie Baumstark drew a walk, scoring Kennedy for the 4-0 Bears' edge.
 
WashU put up three more runs in the top of the second inning. Schneider drew another walk and stole second before Pilpil drilled a two-run homer to left center for the 6-0 lead. Geluck followed with a double down the left field line, prompting an NYU pitching change. Geluck moved up to third on a Kennedy fly out and scored on an Olivia Craycraft sac fly to right field to make it a 7-0 game.
 
Another two scored for the Bears in the top of the third inning. Capparelli was hit by a pitch to lead off and Baumstark doubled to left center to put two runners in scoring position. Schneider brought in both runners with a triple to left center, putting WashU up 9-0.
 
WashU added its final three runs in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Emily Talkow singled to center and then stole second. Schneider drew her third walk of the game and both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. For the second time in the game, Pilpil homered, making it a 12-0 Bears' lead.
 
Pilpil went 3-for-4 including two homeruns with six RBI and three runs score. Geluck finished 2-for-4 with two runs score while Schneider was 1-for-1 with three walks, two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Jordan Rossi improved to 4-0 in the circle, picking up the win with a complete game, allowing just three hits, two walks and no runs along with two strikeouts.
 
The Bears continue the series against the Violets tomorrow with games as 12 and 2 p.m. ET.
