ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team dropped its home dual match to No. 14 Denison University, Friday, April 12 by a score of 7-2. With the loss, WashU's record sits at 10-8 on the year, while the Big Red's record jumped to 12-3.
Doubles
The Bears secured one doubles match victory heading into singles play.
WashU's doubles win came at No. 2 doubles where sophomore
Eric Kuo and junior
Scott Yamamoto earned the 8-5 victory over Zachary Portnoy and Colin Gramley.
Sophomore
Colin Fox and senior
Gaurav Singh, playing at No. 1 doubles, fell just short against Ethan Green and Kael Shalin Shah, 8-6.
Singles
Singh welcomed the No. 4 singles sweep, 6-4, 6-4, against Ryan Patrick.
At No. 1 singles, Phillips fell in three sets to Green, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Sophomore
Colin Scruggs dropped the 6-4, 6-1 No. 2 singles match against Shah.
Kuo, competing at No. 3 singles, was upended by Patterson in three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Junior
John Fakouri fell to Mackler at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2. At No. 6 singles, sophomore
Case Fagan came up short against Portnoy, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
WashU will see a quick turnaround as the Bears will host No. 3 University of Chicago, tomorrow, Saturday, April 13 at Dwight Davis Tennis Center. First serve for the top-10 showdown is scheduled for 11 a.m.
