ANGOLA, Ind. – The RV Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team concluded its season with an 86-65 loss to No. 13 Trine in the Sweet 16 on Friday evening. The Bears end with a 20-8 record after the program's ninth trip to the Sweet 16.
Junior
Hayden Doyle led the offensive efforts for the Bears with 21 points and six rebounds to go with three assists and two steals. Junior
Kyle Beedon had 14 points and four rebounds while sophomore
Yogi Oliff recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as well as a game-high five assists.
WashU opened the game with a 4-0 run on jumper from Beedon and Doyle but Trine answered with a 7-0 run to take a 7-4 lead at 17:04. A pair of free throws from Oliff made it a one-point game but the Thunder scored nine-straight points to take a 16-6 lead with 13:44 on the clock.
Down nine, first-year
Emmett Lawton put in a layup followed by a 3-pointer to cut down Trine's advantage to 18-14 at 12:33.
Trine went back up by eight points following a 3-pointer from Fred Garland, but Doyle netted a longball to make it a 26-21 game at 6:16. The Thunder put in back-to-back buckets and Cortez Garland hit a 3-pointer to give the Thunder a 33-23 game with 2:47 remaining in the first half.
Ultimately, the Thunder went into halftime with a 38-28 lead over the Bears.
Trine came out of the break to hit four-straight points, going up 42-28 just 1:17 into the second half. Oliff followed with an offensive putback to cut it to a 12-point deficit.

Trine took its largest lead of the game – 25 points – for the first time at 7:40 after a 3-pointer from Aidan Smylie. First-year

Jonathan Coffy netted the final four points of the game for the Bears.
The Bears out-rebounded Trine 38-31 but had 17 turnovers to the Thunders' 12. WashU shot 24-for-65 (36.9%) and 8-for-30 (26.7%) from 3-point range.
