Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

One Up, One Down for No. 7 Men’s Tennis; Drops Decision to No. 1 CMS, Takes Down Skidmore

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team split its pair of home dual matches, Friday, March 29. The Bears fell to No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2-5), then defeated Skidmore College (5-2). 
 
After today's results, WashU owns a record of 9-6. 
 
No. 1 CMS 5, No. 7 WashU 2 
 
Doubles 
 
The Bears took two of the three doubles matches to secure the one available doubles point. 
 
The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Colin Fox and senior Gaurav Singh took down Ian Freer and Matthew Robinson, 7-6 (7-5). 
 
At No. 3 doubles, senior Jared Phillips and junior Pato Garcia Muriel topped Tarm Rojanasoonthon and Warren Pham, 6-2. 
 
Advik Mareedu and Anirudh Reddy defeated junior Scott Yamamoto and junior Stefan Hester, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles. 
 
Singles 
 
Junior John Fakouri produced the lone singles point for the Bears at No. 6 singles. Fakouri took down Pham in three sets (2-6, 7-5, 10-3).  
 
Phillips dropped a 3-6, 4-6 match at No. 1 singles to Mareedu.  
 
Sophomore Colin Scruggs fell short against Freer, 4-6, 2-6, at No. 2 singles. 
 
Sophomore Eric Kuo came up short against Robinson, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-4, at No. 3 singles. 
 
Graduate student Sergiu Celebidachi dropped his match at No. 4 singles to Anirudh Gupta, 0-6, 0-6. 
 
Hester lost his No. 5 singles match to Rojanasoonthon, 4-6, 0-6. 
 
 
No. 7 WashU 5, Skidmore 2 
 
Doubles 
 
The Bears took all three doubles matches to earn the one available doubles point. 
 
At No. 1 doubles, Singh and Fox eeked out the close victory, 7-6 (10-8), over Yuval Goodman and Nika Mori. 
 
Hester and Yamamoto spun the 7-5 decision over Griffin Biernat and Harrison Gardin at the No. 2 doubles position. 
 
At No. 3 doubles, Garcia Muriel and Phillips took down Louis Bourn and Fletcher King, 6-3. 
 
Singles 
 
Phillips won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, against Goodman at No. 1 singles. 
 
Scruggs, at No. 2 singles, won his match by set scores of 6-1 and 6-3 against Bourn. 
 
Celebidachi defeated King at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.  
 
Sophomore Case Fagan came out victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1, against Adel Aissaoui. 
 
Hester dropped a close decision at No. 4 singles to Mori, 7-6, 4-6, 11-9. 
 
Fox, playing at No. 5 singles, fell to Kyle Lundberg in three, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 10-8. 
 
WashU will see a quick turnaround as the program will host No. 9 Trinity (Texas) University, tomorrow, Saturday, March 30. First serve from Tao Tennis Center is scheduled for 10 a.m.
