AZUSA, Calif. - The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team dropped a close match to No. 11 Sewanee, 5-4, Friday, March 15. WashU concludes its spring trip with a record of 2-3 and the team's overall record sits at 8-5.
Doubles:
The Tigers earned two of the three double matches, taking a 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion of the match.
WashU's No. 1 singles team of sophomore
Colin Fox and senior
Gaurav Singh won its match against Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund, 8-7 (7-5), in a tightly contested battle.
Playing at No. 2 doubles, senior
Jared Phillips and sophomore
Eric Kuo fell, 7-8 (5-7), to Peyton Erck and Andre Jakobi.
Singles:
At No. 2 singles, sophomore
Colin Scruggs took down Erck in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Junior
John Fakouri, playing at the No. 5 singles position, cruised past Weston in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Junior
Stefan Hester came out victorious against Henry Hyden at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Phillips was upended at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 3-6, by Theron.
Graduate student
Sergiu Celebidachi dropped his No. 3 singles match to Wicklund, 6-7 (3-7), 1-6.
At No. 4 singles, Garcia Muriel came up short against Ramsey, 1-6, 5-7.
WashU will make the return trip to St. Louis before hosting a pair of dual matches, Friday, March 29. The Bears will first host No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) at 10 a.m., before squaring off against Skidmore College at 3 p.m. Both matches are set to be played at Tao Tennis Center.
