Jessica Brooks turned in a career day on the hardwood to push the Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball teams win streak to five with an 84-74 University Athletic Association victory over Case Western Reserve University, Sunday, February 4. With the win, WashU's record jumped to 13-7 (6-3 UAA), while CWRU's record slipped to 8-12 (1-8 UAA).
In the contest, Brooks tied her career best with 32 points in the victory. Brooks capped off her performance going 11-for-17 from the floor, which included a 2-for-3 effort from long range. Brooks also finished 8-of-10 from the free throw line. In addition, Brooks grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

Alyssa Hughes added 13 points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists. Hughes converted 3-of-5 from long range.

Catherine Goodwin contributed eight points and four rebounds in the victory.
As a team, WashU connected on 30-of-64 (46.9%) from the field, 8-of-23 (34.8%) from beyond the arc, and 16-of-21 (76.2%) from the charity stripe.
The Bears held the significant, 38-22, points in the paint advantage. WashU also cashed in on 13 offensive boards that accounted for 14 seconds chance points. In comparison, CWRU secured four offensive rebounds that led to three second chance points.
WashU's bench notched 28 points, compared to the Spartans 16 bench points.
The Bears got the scoring started early as Brooks connected on a fastbreak layup just six seconds into the contest. After a CWRU bucket, first year
Sidney Rogers drilled a three to push WashU's lead to three, 5-2, with 8:26 left in the first.
WashU doubled up the Spartans, 10-5, on another Rogers three with 7:01 remaining in the opening quarter. After the three, the Bears went on a 7-0 run to snag the early 12-point, 17-5 cushion. The run featured five points from Hughes and two from Goodwin.
CWRU trimmed its deficit to six, 19-13, with 1:58 left in the first with back-to-back buckets. However, the Bears ended the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take the 11-point, 24-13, lead into the second. The first quarter ended on a first year Sidney Starks layup as time expired.
Midway through the second, WashU held the slim, 30-27, advantage with 5:27 left until halftime. Up by three, the Bears turned in a 10-0 run to regain the double-digit, 40-27, cushion. The run featured four points from first year
Amelia Rosin, three points from Brooks, and three points from Goodwin. WashU's run lasted nearly two minutes.
With time winding down in the second quarter, sophomore
Jordan Rich and Brooks each drilled a three to put WashU ahead by 16, 46-30. CWRU hit a free throw with 13 seconds left as the Bears took the 15-point, 46-31, halftime lead.
WashU held the double-digit lead for the first half of the third quarter. The Spartans went on an 11-0 run, spanning nearly three minutes of game time to put the score at 53-48, in favor of WashU.
Brooks ended CWRU's run on a pair of free throws with 2:13 remaining in the third. The Bears capped off the third quarter on a 6-0 run to snag the 10-point, 58-48, advantage.
The first few minutes of the fourth quarter saw both teams exchange buckets, with WashU ahead by 12, 67-55, with 6:02 left to play.
The Spartans recorded a quick 5-0 run to cut WashU's lead to seven, 67-60, with the clock sitting at 4:33.
Late in the fourth, Brooks took over the contest, scoring nine straight for the Bears. Brooks converted a big free throw with just 53 seconds left to extend WashU's lead to nine, 76-67.
Hughes and Goodwin each connected on a pair of free throws as WashU maintained the eight point, 80-72, cushion with 34 ticks left.
After a CWRU layup, with WashU ahead by six, Brooks was fouled with 14 seconds left. Brooks stepped up to the line and secured two free throws to put WashU up by eight, 82-74.
The Spartans missed a three on their ensuing possession. With one second left on the clock, Brooks, once again, drilled two free throws to ice the contest as WashU walked away with the 84-74 victory.
WashU will next head to Atlanta, Ga. for a tough road test against No. 12 Emory University, Friday, February 9. Tip-off from Woodruff P.E. Center is slated for 5:30 p.m. ET and will serve as the front end of a double dip with the men's basketball program.
