TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. - The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team began its 2024 slate with a tough dual match against No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Saturday, February 3. The Bears utilized five singles wins to take down the Warhawks, 6-3.
Doubles:
Senior
Gaurav Singh and sophomore
Colin Fox fell in a tie breaker at No. 1 doubles to Reuben Giorgio and Luke VanDonslear, 8-7 (7-2).
The No. 3 doubles team of senior
Jared Phillips and junior
Stefan Hester dropped the 8-4 decision against Theo Billson and Drew Van Fossen.
Singles:
Phillips swept his No. 1 singles match against VanDonslear, 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore
Eric Kuo dropped his first set at No. 2 singles against Giorgio, then won the next two to grab the come from behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory.
At No. 3 singles, graduate student
Sergiu Celebidachi took down Nelson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Fox, playing at the No. 4 singles position, dropped his decision to Van Fossen, 0-6, 6-1, 3-6.
Sophomore
Colin Scruggs defeated Billson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 5 singles.
At No. 6 singles, Singh welcomed a straight set sweep over Will Ulrich, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bears will return to the court on Saturday, February 17 with a dual match against Division II Southwest Baptist University. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. inside of the Woodsmill Tennis Club.
