ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RV Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team got back on track on Sunday afternoon with a 75-61 win over Rochester. The Bears improve to 15-7 overall with a 5-6 mark in UAA play.
Hayden Doyle had his fifth-straight double-digit game and his 19
th this season out of 22 games. The junior netted 21 against the Yellowjackets with nine rebounds and four assists. Junior
Kyle Beedon scored 18 while sophomore
Calvin Kapral had his first-career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Bears opened the game on a 15-0 run in the opening 3:32. Kapral started the run with back-to-back layups and Beedon drained a shot from distance followed by a steal and a layup. Doyle had an offensive putback and Beedon hit a pair of free throws. First-year
Jake Davis closed out the run with a fastbreak layup.
Rochester got on the board at the 16:05 mark with a 3-pointer from C.J. Amsellem, followed by a jumper from Tomiwa Adetosoye. A Yellowjackets' free throw and jumper cut the Bears' lead to 16-8.
Doyle netted two-straight jumpers to extend the Bears' lead back to double-digits, 20-8 with 10:57 on the clock. WashU continued to maintain a double-figure lead until 5:40 on the clock when Mitchell Kershner stole the ball and laid it in for a 24-16 game.
WashU followed with a 7-0 run, starting with a layup from Kapral at 5:03. Sophomore

Yogi Oliff hit a jumper to give the Bears a 31-16 lead.
Rochester scored the final points of the first half on a 3-pointer from Ethan McEachern to send WashU into the half with a 31-19 lead.
The Bears came out of the gate with a 3-pointer from Doyle to go up 34-19.
The teams exchanged baskets for several minutes with the Bears maintaining a double-digit lead the entire time.
Another 3-pointer from Doyle at the 15:43 mark extended WashU's lead to 16 points, 41-25.
Following a pair of free throws from Rochester's Corvin Oprea, the Bears' lead was cut to 11 points, 44-33 but jumpers from Grudzinski and Beedon extended it back to 48-33.
The Yellowjackets brought it down to 11 points again, 54-45, at the 7:38 mark following a 3-pointer from Oprea.
The Bears took their biggest lead of the game with 4:02 remaining. Beedon netted a shot from distance followed by an offensive putback from Kapral to make it a 17-point, 66-49 game.
Rochester score two-straight buckets and eventually brought it back down to an 11-point gap, 70-59, with 1:34 remaining. The Bears closed out the game with a pair of free throws from Grudzinski, a layup from Davis and a free throw from Beedon.
The Bears wrap up the regular-season with three-straight home games, starting with a 7:30 p.m. game against NYU on Friday evening which will serve as the Black History Month celebration and Neighbors Day. WashU will then host Brandeis at 12 p.m. on Sunday and host Chicago for Senior Day on Saturday, February 24 at 3 p.m.
