WashU Football Set for a CCIW contest versus No. 25 Wheaton College on Military Appreciation Day

The Washington University in St. Louis football team (5-1) is gearing up for one of the biggest games of the season as it hosts the No. 25 Wheaton College Thunder (4-2) this Saturday at Francis Olympic Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., and Bears fans are encouraged to pack the stands in what promises to be an electrifying contest with major conference implications. Come out, show your support, and make some noise as the Bears look to secure a pivotal conference win and continue their strong 2024 campaign. Let's fill Francis Olympic Field and give the team the home-field advantage they need in this critical showdown!

Both teams enter the game vying for sole possession of second place in the CCIW, sitting just behind conference leader North Central College. WashU's only loss this season came at the hands of No. 1 North Central, making this game critical in the Bears' pursuit of postseason aspirations.

The Bears, led by head coach Aaron Keen, are riding a wave of momentum after a strong 5-1 start. The Thunder, ranked 25th nationally, pose a formidable challenge with a 4-2 record, with only one loss in conference. As an original member of the CCIW, with a short stint removed from the conference, the Thunder have found success making the post-season seven out of the last 10 seasons.

Adding to the excitement of game day is Military Appreciation Day, where we will honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. The halftime ceremony will also feature a prestigious moment for WashU Athletics, as the Athletic Department will be presented with the Learfield Directors' Cup, recognizing WashU for finishing eighth out of more than 425 Division III schools in the nation, marking the 19th year in a row in the top 10. This achievement is a testament to the University's ongoing commitment to excellence across all sports programs.
