Football Beats Elmhurst 49-10 on the Road

ELMHURST, Ill. – The (RV) Washington University in St. Louis football team beat Elmhurst 49-10 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears are now 5-1 on the season with a 4-1 CCIW mark.
 
WashU scored on the first drive of the game, starting with a 15-yard run by senior Kenneth Hamilton. He then ran for another 20 yards and five yards, consecutively before running for a 35-yard touchdown. Sophomore Ross Muchnick hit the extra-point kick, making it a 7-0 game for the Bears.
 
First-year Jack Middleton sacked Elmhurst quarterback John Odom on third-and-10, forcing a punt. Senior Collin Goldberg returned the punt for 71 yards and a touchdown. Muchnick's kick was good, putting WashU ahead 14-0.
 
On the next Elmhurst drive, Middleton and first-year Ethan Venable sacked Odom again on a third down, forcing a punt.
 
The Bears only made it to their own 22 before sophomore quarterback Levi Moore's pass was intercepted by Charles Scott. The Blue Jays brought it down to the 14 and then Marco Davila hit a 31-yard field goal for a 14-3 game.
 
With 2:02 left in the first quarter, the Bears began their drive with a one-yard gain from junior Fred Ware. Moore hit Goldberg with a 14-yard pass and Ware picked up seven yards to end the first quarter.
 
Ware ran for 10 yards on three attempts to put the Bears at the 50 and Hamilton added six more yards. Ware went for 22 yards and a first down at the 15 before adding another seven and six yards, respectively.
 
Hamilton ran for a gain of one and finished it out with a one-yard touchdown run. Muchnick's kick was good, putting WashU ahead 21-3 with 10:16.
 
The Bears' defense forced another Elmhurst punt and started their drive at the 44. Moore found first-year Lucas Blumenthal for a 12-yard pass and then hit sophomore Makael Carter for 17 yards and a first down at the 15.
 
Hamilton ran for four yards and then another seven before Moore connected with Carter again for a four-yard touchdown pass. Muchnick's kick was good, making it a 28-3 game.
 
Elmhurst was fourth-and-four at the 41 but turned it over at downs, giving WashU the ball.
 
On the first play of the Bears' drive, Moore found Goldberg for 24 yards and a first down at the 35. Senior Kenvorris Campbell ran for two yards, five yards and four yards, respectively, before breaking for a timeout.
 
Campbell added another three yards before Moore hit Goldberg for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Muchnick's kick was good, putting the Bears ahead 35-3.
 
After forcing a punt on Elmhurst's opening drive of the second half, Moore connected with Goldberg for four yards. Ware picked up two yards and Moore hit sophomore Colin Donahue for 10 yards and a first down at the 26. Ware picked up another two yards and Moore connected with Donahue again for four yards. Elmhurst was hit with an unnecessary roughness call, moving the Bears ahead 10 yards to the 10.
 
A penalty on the Bears pushed the line of scrimmage back to the 26 before Moore found Goldberg for an 11-yard gain. Moore and Ware connected for a 14-yard play and a first down at the one-yard line. Ware finished the job with a one-yard touchdown run and Muchnick's kick was good for a 42-3 Bears' lead.
 
WashU scored its final touchdown of the day in the fourth quarter, starting the drive at the 13:10 mark.
 
Sophomore Matthew Kinoshita ran for 30 yards on five attempts and first-year quarterback Alexander Singh connected with Blumenthal for 14-yards and a first down at the six. Kinoshita added five yards and then ran it in for a one-yard touchdown. Muchnick hit the extra-point kick for a 49-3 Bears' game.
 
Elmhurst scored its lone touchdown of the game starting at the 8:44 mark. Darius Lane went for one yard and quarterback Jack Leons hit Jacob Cockrell for nine yards and a first down at the Elmhurst 35. Lane picked up 20 yards on three runs and Leons hit Cockrell for a 45-yard touchdown. Davila's kick was good for a 49-10 game.
 
The Bears had 412 yards of total offense (162 passing, 250 rushing) while Elmhurst had 194 yards (162 passing, 32 rushing).
 
Moore was 12-for-14 for 146 yards. Hamilton led the rushing game with 99 yards on 10 attempts and two touchdowns. Ware had 58 yards on 13 attempts with one touchdown and Kinoshita had 50 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown.
 
Goldberg led the receivers with 85 yards on six catches with one touchdown.
 
Defensively, senior Grant Purdy had five tackles including three solo. First-year Quinten Bennett and junior Brady Wilmer each had four tackles. Bennett recorded one pass breakup and Willmer recorded one tackle for a loss.
 
The Bears are back home next week No. 24 Wheaton at 1 p.m. The game will serve as Military Appreciation Day.
