ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Behind a stat-stuffing performance, first year
Lexy Harris hauled in 32 points, as the Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball slid past Carnegie Mellon University, 90-81, Friday, January 26 in University Athletic Association play. With the win, WashU's record upped to 10-7 (3-3 UAA), while CMU's record fell to 10-7 (2-4 UAA).
Four Bears topped double-digit point totals in the victory. Harris racked up her sixth double-double of the season with game-highs of 32 points and 11 rebounds. Harris finished the contest shooting 13-for-17 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.

Sidney Rogers added 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Alyssa Hughes earned 11 points, going 3-of-8 from long range. Sophomore
Jordan Rich contributed 10 points, four assists, and three boards.

Catherine Goodwin finished with nine points and four rebounds.
As a team, WashU shot 35-of-71 (49.3%) from the floor, 7-of-24 (29.2%) from distance, and 13-24 (54.2%) from the charity stripe.
WashU produced a double-digit advantage in points in the paint, 52-42. Cleaning up the glass, the Bears held the 14-point advantage (25-11) in second chance points. Defensively, WashU turned 18 CMU turnovers into 24 points.
With the score tied at four in the opening quarter, the Bears went on a five-point run to take the 9-4 lead with 6:55 remaining. The run featured an and-one from Brooks and a pair of Harris free throws.
Later in the first, with the score even at 16-16, WashU closed out the quarter on a six-point run to carry the 22-16 lead into the second quarter. Goodwin grabbed four-of-the-six points in the run.
The Tartans began the second stanza on a five-point run to trim their deficit to just one, 22-21, with 7:28 on the clock until halftime. However, the Bears answered right back with a nine-point run to open up a double-digit, 31-21, lead. The run saw points by Hughes, Rogers, Rich, and sophomore
Nailah McBeth.
After a defensive rebound from Rogers, Rich connected on a transition three to give WashU the eight-point, 34-26, lead with 2:37 left until halftime.
With the second quarter coming to an end, CMU nailed a three with 24 seconds left to trim the deficit to four, 36-32, heading to the halftime break.
Just 11 seconds into the second half, Harris muscled up an and-one to extend WashU's cushion to seven, 39-32.
The majority of the third quarter saw both teams trade buckets, with WashU clinging to a marginal lead. However, with just over two minutes left in the third, the Bears dialed up a six-point run to grab the 12-point, 65-53 advantage. Hughes sunk a fastbreak three and Goodwin earned three points of her own in the small run.
The Tartans connected on two free throws with 26 seconds left to cut the deficit to 10, 65-55.
In the final frame, Harris welcomed yet another and-one with 8:17 remaining to put the Bears up by 11, 72-61.
A Rich layup with 4:05 left in the fourth pushed WashU's advantage to 10, 80-70.
The Bears rallied for back-to-back buckets down the stretch to enjoy the 13-point, 88-75, cushion. Harris and Brooks each secured a basket for WashU on two straight possessions with the clock sitting at 1:36.
CMU applied front court pressure on WashU's guards in attempts of a comeback. However, WashU handled the pressure, going 5-for-5 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, to grab the 90-81 victory.
The Bears will continue its weekend home slate with a UAA test against Case Western Reserve University, Sunday, January 28. Tip-off from the Field House is scheduled for 2 p.m.
