ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated DePauw 4-0 on Friday evening to improve to 4-0 on the year.
The Bears put the first goal of the game on the board at the 20:20 mark. Following a shuffle in front of the goal, junior
Gaelen Clayton wrangled the ball and fired it into the low left corner of the goal.
WashU struck again with less than two minutes left in the first half. After a foul in the box, senior
Jessica Greven drilled a penalty kick into the right corner, making it a 2-0 game.
The Bears put up the third goal of the game in the 58
th minute. Sophomore
Grace Ehlert went on a breakaway, firing the ball into the right corner for her second goal of the season.
In the 75
th minute, first year
Alexandra Weinmeister netted her first career goal on another breakaway play, making it a 4-0 game for the Bears.
Offensively, the Bears totaled 17 shots with 10 on goal while WashU's defense held DePauw to just three shots with one on goal. WashU ramped the offense up in the second half, tallying 13 of its 17 shots. The Bears also earned five corner kicks to the Tigers' two.
DePauw's lone shot on goal of the game was in the 74
th minute. Whitney Freeman fired the ball where goalkeeper
Sidney Conner stopped it to earn her second blank sheet of the season.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Rhodes on Francis Olympic Field.
