Rock Island, Ill. - With the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship just four days away, the No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team traveled to Rock Island, Ill. for the program's final regular season competition, the Augustana Last Chance Meet, Thursday, May 18.
Securing the lone individual victory for the Bears, junior Ebun Opata claimed first as she posted a triple jump distance of 11.92m to best the field of 17 student-athletes.
The 4x400m relay squad of graduate Sophie Fox, sophomore Nicole Stewart, first-year Kylie Spytek, and junior Emma Kelley won the event by just under a second with their winning time of 3:46.71 to generate the sixth-fastest mark in program history. The Bear 'B' team notched ninth in the relay (3:53.41).
Sophomore Ruby Kaplan grabbed a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with her finishing time of 1:04.43.
Sophomore Yasmin Ruff generated second as she cleared the 3.82m pole vault bar. Junior Anna Curtis took home 11th in the event (3.47m).
In the 100m finals, senior Mycah Clay registered a time of 12.13, good for a fourth-place finish. Just behind Clay, sophomore Lauren Gay crossed the finish line with a mark of 12.14, which secured her a fifth-place finish.
Sophomore Julia Patterson ran the sixth-fastest 3,000m steeplechase time in Bears history (10:46.84) with her third-place showing.
The 4x100m relay team featuring Clay, Stewart, first-year Jasmine Wright, and Gay claimed fourth with their mark of 47.03.
Generating a fourth-place finish in the 800m, Alessia Sarussi secured a time of 2:11.05, while senior
Danielle Schultz took 10
th (2:15.03).
In the highly competitive 200m race, Stewart notched third in the event, posting a mark of 24.74. Also, in the 200m, Gay took 14th (25.36). Senior Lauren Hamilton (25.72) notched 18th, while Spytek (26.17) recorded 26th.
Junior Charis Riebe grabbed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.56. In the preliminary round, Riebe registered the sixth-fastest time in Bear history (14.38).
Senior Miku Okada cleared the 1.64m high jump bar to generate a sixth-place finish.
In the long jump event, Opata registered sixth with her jump of 5.43m.
In the 1,500m race, senior Lindsay Ott hauled in an eighth-place finish as she crossed the finish line with a time of 4:36.72. Fellow senior Alexandra Blake secured 11th in the event (4:41.15).
First-year Kally Mack earned a heave of 33.98m in the discus throw to secure 29th.
WashU will travel to Rochester N.Y. to participate in the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship, Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27.
