Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team defeating No. 9 Chicago 5-4 in the UAA semifinal to advance to Sunday's championship. The Bears will face No. 1 Case Western Reserve at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The Bears went down 2-1 following doubles.
Gaurav Singh and
Scott Yamamoto won the lone doubles match, defeating Andrei Leonov and Sachin Das 8-6 at second doubles.
Abhi Ramireddy and Phuc Huyn fell to Arjun Asokumar and Derek Hsieh 8-5 at first doubles while
Pato Garcia Muriel and
Colin Scruggs lost to Pat Otero and Biren Reddy 8-3 at third doubles.
James Shaheen lost to Marek Michulka 6-4, 6-3 at sixth singles to give Chicago a 3-1 lead.
Eric Kuo then defeated Oteo 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles and Ramireddy notched a win over Hsieh 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at second singles to even things up.
Singh fell to Das 6-4, 6-3 at fourth singles before Huynh defeated Asokumar 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at first singles.
Jared Phillips clinched the match for the Bears, defeating Emil Grantcharov 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at third singles.
