Cleveland, Ohio – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team lost to No. 8 Case Western Reserve University 1-0. The Bears are now 9-13 on the season with a 2-6 mark in UAA play.
Both teams remained scoreless until the Spartans broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning. KaiLi Gross singled to short and stole second. Kela Jagoada singled to the catcher, moving gross to third and putting runners on the corners. Jagoda went on to steal second and move to third on a throwing error by second, giving Gross time to score for the 1-0 lead.
The Bears could not string together enough to tie the game in the remaining innings and left four runners stranded throughout the game.
WashU had just two hits from
Erin Reardon and
Payton Irwin.
Holly Stoner took the loss in the circle, scattering five hits and allowing one run.
The Bears are home on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference double-header against Fontbonne at 2 and 4 p.m.
