Softball Completes Series Sweep of Emory

Atlanta, Ga. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team completed the sweep of Emory with a 6-1 win on Sunday. The Bears are 17-15 overall with a 9-7 mark in conference play.
 
The Bears got things going in the top of the first inning. Maggie Baumstark reached base on an error and moved to third on a Pilpil pop up. Payton Irwin reached on a fielding error, scoring Baumstark to make it a 1-0 game.
 
WashU exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Katie Gould hit a two-out single to left and Baumstark singled to center. Pilpil doubled to left, scoring Gould and Baumstark and scored on an Irwin single up the middle. Erin Reardon bunted to the pitcher and advanced to third on a throwing error, scoring Irwin. Tami Wong singled up the middle to score Reardon and give the Bears a 6-0 lead.
 
Emory scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Isabel Cohen led off with a single to left center and Abby Sekoff put down a sac bunt to put Cohen in scoring position. Cohen moved to third on a ground out from Ashley Chu. Tyler Miller doubled to right center, scoring Cohen.
 
Gould and Reardon each went 2-for-4 with one run scored while Pilpil finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
 
Jordan Rossi notched her seventh win of the season in the circle, pitching a complete game with one earned run, no walks and three strikeouts.
 
The Bears travel to Brandeis next weekend for a four-game series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
