St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 11-3 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game. The Bears improve to 21-8 on the year.
The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Brandon Buday led off with a single through the left side and stole second.
Harry Mauterer drew a walk and both runners advanced a base on a
Shane Pellegrino grounder.
Clayton Miller drilled a single down the right field line, scoring Buday and Mauterer to give WashU a 2-0 edge.
WashU added another in the bottom of the third. Mauterer led off with a double to left center and Pellegrino singled through the left side to put runners on the corners. Miller drove in his third run of the day with a sacrifice fly out to right field, making it a 3-0 lead.
The Bears took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after scoring three runs.
Chris Jacinto drew a lead-off walk and
Magnus Dunn singled through the left side.
Jack Miller reached base on a throwing error, scoring Jacinto. Buday drove in Dunn with a ground out to short and Mauterer drilled a single to right center to score

WashU scored another two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mazone reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to third on a
Kaden Bernhard ground out. Jacinto drove in Mazone with a sac fly to right field. Dunn followed with a single, stole second and went on to score on a
Jack Miller double to center, giving WashU the 8-0 lead.
The Bears scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pellegrino hit a one-out single to right field and moved to second on a Mazone single to right. Bernhard reached on an error, scoring Pellegrino.
Rose-Hulman put one on the board in the top of the seventh inning as Mark Serdinak drilled a solo homer to left center, making it a 9-1 game.
The Fightin' Engineers scored two more in the top of the eighth inning. Kade Kline drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Peter Rogers singled through the left side and Kline scored on the throw attempt to catch Rogers stealing second. Andy Krajecki singled to third and stole second. Rogers went on to score on a Dalton Busboom ground out.
WashU tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Clayton Miller drew a one-out walk and Mazone drew a walk. With two outs, Jacinto singled up the middle to score
Clayton Miller and Dunn followed with a single to right center, scoring Mazone.
Dunn went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Jacinto finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Pellegrino finished 2-for-4 with one run scored while
Clayton Miller went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored.
Jack Miller finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.
Will Henkel picked up the win on the mound to improve to 6-1 on the season, going six innings with just three hits, no runs and seven strikeouts.
The Bears host Brandeis this weekend in a UAA series, starting on Friday at 3 p.m.
