Cleveland, Ohio. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team fell to No. 8 Case Western Reserve University 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
The got on the board quickly in the top of the first.
Katie Gould led off with a single to left and
Erin Reardon reached on a throwing error by third base, giving Gould time to score for the early 1-0 lead.
The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brianna Landers singled through the left side and Stevie Rieger moved her up with a single to right field. Kela Jagoda doubled to left field, scoring Landers. KaiLi Gross followed with a single to second base, scoring Rieger and then stole second. Carli Tucci hit a sac fly to left to bring in Jagoda for a 3-1 lead.
Tami Wong homered to lead off the top of the sixth inning, making it a 3-2 game.
Although the Bears had a runner on in the top of the seventh, they could not put together any more of a rally to tie the game, falling to the Spartans.
Gould finished 2-for-3 with one run scored while Wong went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
Natalia Pilpil finished 1-for-3.
The Bears continue the series against CWRU tomorrow with games at 12 and 2 p.m. ET.
