Men’s Track and Field Lifts Lid on 2023-24 Season at SIU’s Saluki Fast Start Meet

 
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field program began their 2023-24 campaign by traveling to Southern Illinois University, Saturday, December 2. At the meet, the Bears produced four program top-10 marks and currently hold four NCAA Division III top-10 marks. 
 
WashU competed alongside Maryville University, University Missouri-St. Louis, Southeastern Missouri State University, Southern Illinois, and University Tennesse-Martin. 
 
Top-10 program marks from the meet: 
 
Sophomore George Bourdier welcomed two program top-10 marks to begin the season. Bourdier, who grabbed fifth in the 60m event yesterday, sits in sixth in WashU history. Bourdier secured the mark in the semifinal round and turned in a time of 7.12 in the finals. 
 
Additionally, Bourdier won the pole vault event with a heave of 4.70m. In the process, Bourdier found a spot on the top-10 list, as he garnered the eighth-highest mark in Bear history.  
 
Junior Lawrence Lokonobei cracked the top-10 with his 60m hurdles time of 8.36. Lokonobei secured the mark in the preliminaries and took fourth (8.41) in the final round. 
 
First-year Jared Dawkins, in his first collegiate meet, registered a runner-up finish in the triple jump. Dawkins garnered a mark of 14.05, to earn the eighth-best jump in Bear history. 
 
In the NCAA Division III rankings, Bourdier holds down seventh in the pole vault, Dawkins also sits in seventh in the triple jump. 
 
Senior Will Dehmler won the 800m with a time of 1:57.22. With Dehmler's victory, he registered the seventh-fastest mark in NCAA Division III this season. 
 
The 4x400 relay team consisting of graduate student Jackson Cox, Dehmler, first-year William Frohling, and senior Alex Djetto won the event by nearly four seconds as the team produced a mark of 3:25.58. The team currently sits in ninth in NCAA Division III. 
 
The Bears will return to action after the New Year as the team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Friday Night Spikes Series Opener meet, Friday, January 12.
