Women’s Basketball Edged by Oshkosh, Harris Named Jacqueline Bickel Schapp MVP

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team wrapped up the 22nd annual McWilliams Classic with a dual against University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Saturday, December 2. A first-year Lexy Harris 23-point performance was not enough as the Titans edged the Bears by a final score of 73-60. With the loss, WashU's record sits at 3-4, while Oshkosh's record climbed to 5-2. 
 
Upon the conclusion of the McWilliams Classic, Harris and first-year Catherine Goodwin were named to the All-Tournament team. In addition, Harris was named the Jacqueline Bickel Schapp MVP.  
 
In the two contests, Harris racked up 46 points, 22 rebounds, and six blocks. Goodwin earned 19 points and tied the McWilliams Classic record with 14 assists.

Against Oshkosh, WashU accumulated a 52.3 field goal percentage (23-for-44). The Bears also drilled five long balls, for a three-point percentage of 50.0 (5-for-10). The Titans converted on 22-of-52 attempts, good for a 42.3 field goal percentage. However, Oshkosh buried 13 threes and finished the game with a three-point percentage of 56.5 (13-for-26). 
 
The Bears held the significant points in the paint advantage, 32-18. The Titans held the upper hand in points off turnovers, 18-11. 
 
Harris finished with a game-high 23-points and corralled seven rebounds. Goodwin and first-year Alyssa Hughes each registered eight points. 
 
In the opening period, off of a Harris rejection, junior Brenna Loftus nailed a jumper in transition to give WashU the early five-point, 10-5, lead with 4:44 remaining. The Bears closed out the quarter on a four-point run to grab the seven-point, 20-13, cushion after the opening 10 minutes of play. Goodwin and first-year Sidney Rogers both connected on jumpers to create the run. 
 
WashU held its largest lead of the second, 10 points, on a free throw from Hughes to push the Bears lead to 25-15 with 6:14 left. However, the Titans then went on a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to just three, 28-25, with 1:29 remaining in the half.   
 
At the half, the Bears clung to the one-point, 28-27, advantage. 
 
After the halftime intermission, Oshkosh nailed a three to generate a three-point, 34-31, lead. With 5:57 remaining in the third, junior Sabrina DelBello sunk a three to even the score at 36-36. 
 
With the Bears in front by one, 40-39, the Titans generated a 10-0 run to secure the nine-point, 49-40, cushion with just 1:05 left in the third. 
 
WashU cut the deficit to six on a pair of Goodwin free throws to end the third period. 
 
In the fourth, with Oshkosh in front by three, the Titans went on a 13-point run to open up the commanding 16-point, 67-51, cushion with 4:26 left in the contest. 
 
With a comfortable lead, Oshkosh went on to secure the 73-60 victory.
