Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at Denison Invitational

Denison, Ohio – The Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team finished fourth with 1,488 points at the Denison University Invitational.
 
Day 1
The Bears team of Austin Bick, Justin Rockaway, Nathan Lin and Ethan Feng hit an NCAA B cut and took fourth in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming to a time of 1:21.86. The team of Tommy Moul, Ryan Wierschem, Reece Bends and Mark Lipkin finished seventh with a time of 1:26.01.
 
Junior Pace Edwards finished eighth in the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:35.75. Sophomore Matthew Giardinelli took third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 4:33.01.
 
Senior Alex McCormick hit an NCAA B cut and finished second in the 200 IM, racing to a time of 1:48.04. Junior Danny Sibley finished 13th with a time of 1:51.25 while Feng too 15th in 1:52.36. First-year Marco Minai won the C Final with a time of 1:51.99.
 
Bick was the top finisher for the Bears in the 50 freestyle, winning the B Final and taking 10th overall with a time of 20.62.
 
The Bears' team of McCormick, Rockaway, Bick and Sibley finished fifth in the 400 medley relay, racing to a time of 3:17.62.
 
The Bears sat in fourth following day one with 327 points.
 
Day 2
WashU's team of Kyle Wolford, Rockaway, McCormick and Bick took fourth in the 200 medley relay with an NCAA B cut time of 1:29.68. The team of Moul, Lin, Connor Kwiatkowski and Bends finished eight in 1:32.69.
 
Minai was the top WashU finisher in the 400 IM, taking eighth in 4:00.92, followed by Sibley in ninth with a time of 4:02.57. Ryan Hillery finished third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 4:02.80.
 
Bick finished sixth in the 100 butterfly, hitting an NCAA B cut of 48.71. Wolford finished third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 49.58. Moul won the C Final with a time of 50.38.
 
Edwards won the 200 freestyle, racing to a NCAA B cut time of 1:38.41. Feng finished fourth in 1:40.18 followed by Lipkin in fifth with a time of 1:40.22. Jeffrey Forbes won the C Final with a time of 1:42.11.
 
Lin was the top WashU finisher in the 100 breaststroke, winning the B Final with a time of 56.57. Devin Bunner claimed third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 57.14.
 
McCormick took second in the 100 backstroke, racing to an NCAA B cut time of 48.29. Wolford took sixth in 49.76. Ryan Wood won the C Final with a time of 52.10.
 
The team of Feng, Edwards, Sibley and Lipkin won the 800 freestyle relay, racing to an NCAA B cut time of 6:35.98.
 
The Bears remained in fourth with 958 points.
 
Day 3
Hillery claimed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle, hitting an NCAA B cut of 15:50.39. Orluke Borjigin finished ninth with a time of 16:01.60 and JP Vanderloo finished 10th with a time of 16:02.23. Giardinelli claimed 11th with a time of 16:14.11.
 
McCormick finished second in the 200 backstroke, hitting an NCAA B cut time of 1:44.76. Moul finished third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 1:51.81.
 
Lipkin won the 100 free B Final with a time of 45.60, followed by Rockaway with a time of 45.67. Bick finished third in the B Final and 12th overall with a time of 45.72.
 
First-year Max Balon finished third in the B Final and 12th overall in the 200 breaststroke, swimming to a time of 2:04.74. Bunner finished 16th with a time of 2:05.95.
 
Walker claimed fourth in the 200 butterfly with an NCAA B cut time of 1:49.40. Minai finished eighth with a time of 1:51.27. Moul won the B Final with a time of 1:53.58.
 
The 400 freestyle relay team of Sibley, Bick, Rockaway and Lipkin claimed second with an NCAA B cut and new program record time of 2:59.45. The group of Feng, Edwards, Bends and Kai Taft finished fifth with a time of 3:04.30.
 
The Bears are off of competition until January 12 when they host UMSL at 5 p.m. at Millstone Pool.
