Chicago, Ill. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team finished third at the D3 Shootout, hosted by the University of Chicago with 446 points. Chicago and Pomona-Pitzer tied for first with 459 points.
Day 1
The Bears started the day with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the team of
Kyle Wolford,
Justin Rockaway,
Alex McCormick and
Ethan Feng raced to a time of 1:31.05.
Junior
Danny Sibley finished second in the 400 IM, swimming to a time of 3:58.78. Junior
Ryan Hillery finished second in the B final and 10
th overall with a time of 4:04.76.
Feng took second in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:41.31 while McCormick won the B final and finished ninth overall with a time of 1:41.37.
Senior
Austin Bick was the top finisher for the Bears in the 50 freestyle, taking fourth with a time of 20.92. Junior
Nathan Lin finished fifth in the B final and 13
th overall with a time of 21.54.
In the mixed 400 medley the team of Bick, Lin, Elizabeth Chen and Hannah Lee finished third with a time of 3:43.31.
Sibley also took third in the 200 butterfly, racing to a time of 1:50.80. Hillery finished third in the B final and 11
th overall with a time of 1:53.88.
McCormick won the field in the 100 backstroke, hitting an NCAA b-.cut of 48.78, setting a new meet record. Wolford won the B final, taking ninth overall with a time of 49.48.
Lin was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 breaststroke, taking fifth with a time of 58.06 while Rockaway won the B final and took ninth overall in 57.56.
The Bears' team of Bick, Sibley, Hillery and Feng finished second in the 800 freestyle relay, racing to a time of 6:46.65.
In diving action, junior
Elliot Polikowski finished sixth on the 1-meter board, garnering a score of 155.45.
Day 2
WashU opened up the second day of competition with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay as the team of McCormick, Lin, Wolford and Feng swam to a time of 3:20.10.
Hillery finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.35 while Sibley won the B final and took ninth overall with a time of 4:38.47.
Bick claimed the top spot in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 48.97. Wolford finished second in the B final and 10
th overall with a time of 50.42.
Feng was the top finisher for the Bears in the 200 breaststroke, finishing fifth with a time of 2:08.15 while Lin finished 11
th overall with a time of 2:07.70.
The Bears' team of Rockaway, Hillery, Izzie Gattone and Rin Iimi took third in the mixed 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:19.58.
McCormick won his second race of the weekend in the 200 backstroke, racing to an NCAA B cut of 1:46.06, setting a new meet record. Wolford won the B final, finishing ninth overall with a time of 1:49.14.
Feng was the top WashU finisher in the 100 freestyle, taking sixth with a time of 47.08. Sibley finished second in the B final and 10
th overall with a time of 45.77.
McCormick finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.24 and Bick claimed 10
th with a time of 1:51.94.
WashU's team of Bick, Rockaway, Lin and Sibley finished third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.64.
Polikowski also finished sixth on the 3-meter board, racking up 150.95 points.
The Bears return to competition on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
