No. 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Wins IWU Invitational

Bloomington, Ill. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team won the IWU Invitational, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan, on Saturday afternoon with 156 points.
 
The Bears opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Alex McCormick, Justin Rockaway, Mason Rhode and Ethan Feng raced to a time of 1:34.90. The team of Kyle Wolford, Nathan Lin, Austin Bick and Danny Sibley took second with a time of 1:34.99 while Marco Minai, Andy Zhu, Connor Kwiatkowski and Kai Taft finished third in 1:38.64.
 
Mark Lipkin won the field in the 200 freestyle, racing to a time 1:45.77. Matthew Giardinelli took second in 1:47.31 and Reece Bends finished third in 1:47.63. Orluke Borjigin claimed fourth in 1:47.64 and Brendan Long rounded out the top five with a time of 1:47.85.
 
Wolford won the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.70 and Ryan Wood finished second with a time of 55.26. Pace Edwards finished third in 56.14.
 
Devin Bunner won the 100 breaststroke, swimming to a time of 1:01.11. Bick finished second in 1:01.15 while Max Balon took third in 1:01.28. Zhu finished fourth with a time of 1:01.70 and Bert Wang took fifth in 1:02.89.
 
Matthew Walker finished first in the 200 butterfly, racing to a time of 1:55.81, followed by Minai in second with a time of 1:56.83. Ryan Hillery claimed third in 1:57.23 and Tommy Moul finished fourth with a time of 1:57.66.
 
Ethan Feng was the top finisher for the Bears in the 50 freestyle, taking second in 22.04. Sibley finished third with a time of 22.13 while Lin claimed fourth in 22.19.
 
Wolford won his second race of the day, claiming the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.65. Hillery took third in 48.93 and Taft finished fourth with a time of 48.96.
 
Minai won the field in the 200 backstroke, swimming to a time of 1:55.34, followed by Moul in second with a time of 1:57.10. JP Vanderloo finished third with a time of 1:57.67 and Wood finished fourth in 2:03.56.
 
McCormick claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke, winning in 2:10.39. Balon took second in 2:13.89 and Bunner finished third in 2:15.80. Lin took fourth in 2:16.90 and William Little finished fifth in 2:18.43.
 
Giardinelli won the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:48.24, edging Borjigin who finished second in 4:48.24. Jeffrey Forbes finished third with a time of 4:52.38 and Long took fourth in 4:52.94.
 
Walker won his second race of the day in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 52.66. Kwiatkowsi finished second with a time of.
 
Feng won the 200 IM, racing to a time of 1:56.44, followed by Sibley in second with a time of 1:56.46. Vanderloo took third in 2:00.29 and Zhu finished fourth in 2:01.25.
 
The Bears rounded out the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Lipkin, Edwards, Bends and Bick raced to a time of 1:27.14. Hillery, Walker, Ryan Wierschem and Wood finished third with a time of 1:30.09.
 
The Bears are back in action Thursday, Nov. 30 to Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Denison Invitational.
