ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After a slow opening period, the Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball outscored Greenville University by 15 in the second period to earn the program's first win of the season, 61-43, Wednesday evening. First-year

With the win, WashU's record stands at 1-2, while GU's record dipped to 2-1.
McBeth secured a game-high 13 rebounds, while junior
Brenna Loftus and first-year
Lexy Harris each added eight rebounds.
As a team, WashU connected on 24 of its 64 field goal attempts (37.5%) and sank nine of 30 from beyond the arc (30.0%).
Greenville utilized a full-court press to grab the early 15-9 advantage after the first period.
After some intermission adjustments from head coach
Randi Henderson, the Bears trimmed the deficit to four, 18-14, on a Hughes long ball with 7:21 left in the half. A few possessions later, Hughes drained another three to cut GU's advantage to just one 18-17. With 5:04 left in the second, Goodwin drained a jumper to push the Bears ahead by one, 19-18.
WashU dialed up two more threes before the halftime buzzer to generate the 31-22 halftime advantage.
After the break, the Bears pushed their lead to 15, 29-24, on a DelBello mid-range jumper with 6:02 left in the third. At the end of third, WashU earned the commanding 52-36 lead.
In the fourth, Greenville attempted to make a comeback, but WashU's defense generated a few turnovers to seal the 18-point, 61-43, victory.
The Bears will head to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the two-day, Midwest Challenge, Saturday-Sunday, November 25-26. WashU will open the weekend slate with a contest against DePauw University on Saturday. Tipoff from Hulbert Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
