St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 3 Chicago 166-122 on Saturday afternoon at Millstone Pool.
Swimming
The Bears opened the day with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the team of
Alex McCormick,
Justin Rockaway,
Kyle Wolford and
Austin Bick swam to a time of 1:33.53. The team of
Marco Minai,
Nathan Lin,
Mason Rhode and
Ethan Feng claimed fourth in 1:34.79.
Ryan Hillery won the 1,000 freestyle, racing to a time of 9:46.42.
The Bears claimed the top two spots in the 200 freestyle, led by
Ethan Feng in first with a time of 1:42.33.
Danny Sibley finished second in 1:42.95.
McCormick won the 100 backstroke, racing to a time of 50.03 while Wolford finished second in 51.16.
Lin was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 breaststroke, finished second with a time of 59.26.
Matthew Walker finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.43 while Minai took third in 1:55.43.
Bick was the top finisher for WashU in the 50 freestyle, taking second in 21.48.
Feng won his second race of the day in the 100 freestyle, racing to a time of 47.44. Bick finished fourth in 47.88.
McCormick followed with his second win of the day, taking first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.57. Wolford finished second in 1:54.78 and Minai took third in 1:55.44.
First-year
Max Balon was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 breaststroke, taking fourth in 2:12.62.
Orluke Borjigin finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.58 and Hillery took fourth in 4:50.63.
Lin was the top finisher for WashU in the 100 butterfly, taking fourth with a time of 51.69.
WashU claimed the top three spots in the 400 IM, led by Sibley who finished first in 4:04.58. Minai took second in 4:08.68 while
JP Vanderloo finished third in 4:13.83.
The Bears rounded out the day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Bick, Lin, Rockaway and Feng swam to a time of 1:24.37.
Diving
Elliot Polikowski finished second on the 1-meter with a score of 145.90.
Polikowski also finished second on the 3-meter board with a score of 144.20.
The Bears head to Chicago next weekend for the D3 Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
