Terre Haute, Ind. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team won the third Friday Night Spikes meet of the series on Friday evening, racking up 256 points.
Track
In the opening race, the 60m, sophomore
Nicole Stewart finished second with a 7.92, running the 10
th-fastest time in program history. Senior
Mycah Clay ran a 7.93 for third place and first-year
Jasmine Wright took fourth in 7.93. In the preliminary round, Wright ran a 7.88 for the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Sophomore
Lauren Gay posted the top time for the Bears in the 200m, racing to a second-place time of 25.63. Stewart finished third in 25.93, posting the seventh-fasted time in program history while sophomore
Kylie Spytek took fourth with a 26.21.
Sophomore
Ruby Kaplan won the 400m, racing to a time of 1.02.00.
The Bears swept the top six spots in the 800m, led by junior
Emma Kelley – currently ranked first nationally in the even – in first with a 2:10.97.
Aoife Dunne took second in 2:13.13, posted the sixth-highest time in program history.
Ally Sarussia followed in third in 2:17.09.
WashU's top finisher in the mile was sophomore
Izzy Gorton, who took fifth with a 5:37.55 finish.
Gay won the field in the 60m hurdles, racing to a time of 8.93 which is tied for the 13
th-fastest time this season nationally. Junior
Charis Riebe finished second in 9.13.
The Bears team of
Natalie Swinehart,
Lauren Hamilton, Wright and
Gemma Pleas finished first in the 4x200, racing to a time of 1:48.14.
WashU followed that up with a win the 4x400 relay, as the team of Spytek, Dunne,
Sophie Fox and Kelley raced to a time of 3:54.75, which is the 10
th-fastest time in program history. That time, converted for track size to 3:51.29, ranks third nationally.
Field
Senior
Miku Okada won the high just, clearing 1.63m for the fourth-fastest time program history and tied for 18
th nationally. Senior
Laura Bucchieri finished second, clearing 1.53m.
Sophomore
Yasmin Ruff – who is currently ranked third nationally – won the pole vault, clearing 3.70m. Junior
Anna Curtis took second, clearing 3.38m.
Junior
Ebun Opata took second in the long jump, leaping 5.31m.
Opata went on to win the triple jump with a jump of 11.87m.
Danielle Cuthbert took third with a mark of 10.63.
First-year
Jenae Bothe finished third in the shot put, hitting a 12.49 mark. Sophomore
Taylor Simpson took fourth with an 11.44m throw. Simpson was also the top Bears' finisher in the weight throw, taking fifth with a 13.32 throw.
WashU is back in action next Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Keck Invitational.
