St. Louis, Mo – The No. 20 Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team recorded a 3-0 sweep over Webster University on Wednesday evening at the Field House.
Wednesday's match-theme was Pride Night, as fans came out to support to watch the Bears record a 25-20, 25-5, 25-16 victory to improve to 9-0 on the year.
Additionally, WashU is also a perfect 5-0 at the Field House and has earned four 3-0 sweep victories so far this season.
Jasmine Sells posted a match-high 13 kills in the win, while
Lane Bohrer finished with six kills and six digs.
Sam Buckley, who was named UAA Setter of the Week on Monday, tabbed a team-high 22 assists.
Defensively,
Michaela Bach posted seven digs, as
Elise Gilroy notched six and
Taryn Gurbach collected five.
As a team, the Bears finished Wednesday's match with 38 kills and totaled 11 service aces, as Buckley and
Paris Nix registered three aces each.
WashU started off the match bursting ahead 8-3, and later extended its lead out to 12-6, notching seven kills in the opening 18 points.
However, the Gorloks would cut the lead down to just 13-12 and would later fight back to a dead even tie at 19-19 later on.
Washington U. would hold off Webster with a 6-1 run to close out the opening set, as the Bears took advantage of three consecutive service aces from Nix and a kill from Sells and Bohrer.
In the second set, it was complete domination from the Bears, as they compiled a .370 hitting percentage with 12 kills in total.
WU quickly pulled away from an early 6-3 lead with a 19-2 scoring run to close out the set. Webster was limited to only one kill in the set and committed seven attacking errors.
Sells led WashU with five kills in the frame as the Bears aimed to close out the match in the third set.
Washington U. shook off a slow start and quickly rebounded from a 6-3 deficit with a 9-3 scoring run to push ahead 12-9.
From that point on, the Bears would not trail throughout the remainder of the set. Holding on to a 19-16 advantage, WU closed out the match with a 6-0 run to seal the deal. A kill on match point from Lilly Steinbach secured the win and another 3-0 sweep victory.
The Bears will return to the Field House on Saturday for the UAA Round Robin #1, as they play host to No. 6 NYU at noon, followed by a 2:00 p.m. contest with Carnegie Mellon.
