Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Women's Soccer Defeats Occidental, 1-0

Los Angeles, Calif. – The No. 11 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Occidental, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Bears are now 2-1-2 on the season.
 
WashU scored just 10:54 in, which held through the rest of the game to give the Bears the win.
 
After controlling the play in the opening minutes, the Bears got on the board as senior Maggie Brett found the back of the net on passes from Anna Viscovich and Kate Flynn. The goal marks Brett's team-leading fourth of the season in five games.
 
Prior to the goal, Sara Giannotti put a ball on target, which was saved by Occidental goalkeeper Maggie Baird.
 
Less than one minute following Brett's goal, junior goalkeeper Sidney Conner was tested for the first time, making back-to-back saves on shots from Kara Overnell. She added another save on a Clare Madden save in the 38th minute and a Julietta Seirmarco header in the 41st minute.
 
The Tigers came out firing in the second half, registering four shots and two corner kicks in the first five minutes. Conner made a save on a shot from Olivia Haga in the 49th minute and a ball from Ella Armstrong was saved by the team on the line.
 
Brett put a shot on frame in the 59th minute which was saved by Baird and a shot from Jessica Greven was blocked.
 
Statistically, Occidental outshot the Bears 11-8 with a 6-4 edge for shots on goal.
 
Conner made a season-high six saves in goal to anchor the Bears' defensive efforts. It marks her UAA-leading third shutout of the season.
 
WashU is back in action next weekend at the Wisconsin-Whitewater W Challenge. The Bears will take on Rhodes on Saturday at 11 a.m. and play against on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
