Granville, Ohio – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team is in second place with 1,178 points following day two of the Denison Invitational. The Bears are behind first-place Emory which has 1,269.5 points.
The Bears started the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Kyle Wolfrod,
Justin Rockaway,
Mason Rhode and
Nicolas Gomez hit an NCAA B cut with a time of 1:30.12. The team of
Alexander McCormick,
Jonathan Kim,
Jonathan Ma and
Austin Bick finished in fifth, racing to a time of 1:30.68.
Sophomore
Danny Sibley finished second in the 400 IM, racing to an NCAA B cut time of 3:56.35. Sophomore
Ryan Hillery also hit a B cut, finished sixth in 3:57.98.
The Bears had five swimmers in the final for the 100 butterfly, led by Gomez who finished fourth in 49.06. Bick took fifth in 49.20 while Ma finished sixth in 49.43. First-year
Matthew Walker took seventh with a time of 49.48 and Rhode finished ninth in 50.32.
Senior
Mason Kelber was the top Bears' finished in the 200 freestyle, finished second with a time of 1:37.34, hitting an NCAA B cut. Sophomore
Pace Edwards also hit a B cut with a third-place time of 1:38.81. Junior
Mark Lipkin tied for fifth, swimming to a time of 1:39.94. First-year
Kai Taft won the B final and took 10
th overall with a time of 1:40.29.
Kim was the top WashU finisher in the 100 breaststroke, winning the B final and taking 10
th overall with a time of 56.01.
McCormick finished third in the 100 backstroke, hitting an NCAA B cut time of 48.74.
In the final race of the day, the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Sibley, Kelber, Edwards and Lipkin took home second place with a time of 6:35.68, hitting NCAA B cut.
Bick competed in a time trial for the 200 freestyle, hitting an NCAA B cut of 1:39.80 and taking first place.
The Bears wrap up the Denison Invitational tomorrow with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m.
