No. 9 Volleyball Falls to No. 6 Emory in UAA Championship Final

 
Brooklyn, N.Y. – The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 6 Emory University in Saturday's UAA Championship match in Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Pratt Institute. 
 
It was a tough match for the Bears, who fell 25-23, 25-17, 25-18 and now move to 29-5 overall on the season after Saturday's contest. 
 
Looking ahead to the postseason, the Bears will wait to see where they will play next on Monday at noon CT during the NCAA Selection Show
 
Statistically, the Bears were limited to 36 combined team kills and logged a .174 hitting mark, the lowest hitting percentage recorded this season. 
 
Emory recorded 45 kills and hit .250 altogether as a team in the win. 
 
Jasmine Sells led WashU with a team-high 11 kills, while Lane Bohrer registered nine kills and seven digs. 
 
Both Michaela Bach and Zoe Foster tabbed six kills apiece, as Bach also added six digs. 
 
Sam Buckley led WashU with 31 assists and added five digs and two blocks, while Taryn Gurbach led the Bears with 10 digs defensively. 
 
It was a tight battle in the opening set with seven separate scoring ties and two lead changes. Emory jumped in front 9-6 through the first 15 points, but the Bears would fight back and evened the set at 11-11. 
 
Both teams combined for 31 kills in the opening set, as WU recorded 16 kills but finished the frame with eight hitting errors. 
 
The Eagles were back in front moments later at 15-12, but WashU put together an 8-2 scoring run, winning seven of the eight points on kills at the net for a 20-17 advantage. 
 
WashU was unable to hold on to the lead after EU won the next three points. Tied at 22-22, the Eagles would win three of the next four points played to hold off the Bears 25-23. 
 
WashU trailed the entirety of the second frame and collected only eight kills as a team in the set. Emory opened up with an early 6-1 lead and had the Bears reeling. WashU continued to fight but were unable to cut the margin no closer than two points the rest of the set. 
 
EU led 20-15 later on in the set and won five of the next seven points for a 25-17 set victory and a 2-0 advantage. 
 
In the third, WashU looked to bounce back but it was Emory who had another strong start, pulling ahead 7-3 through the first 10 points of play. 
 
However, the Bears reduced the lead down to just two points on three separate occasions at 10-8, 11-9, and 14-12. 
 
After a 7-1 run from Emory the Eagles held its largest lead of the set at 21-13 and were just four points away from sealing the match. 
 
The Bears clawed their way back into with a 5-0 run to put the pressure back on EU as the margin moved to just 21-18, but the Eagles would win the final four points of the set and clinched the victory.
