No. 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes Second at D3 Shootout

Chicago, Ill. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team finished second at the D3 Shootout hosted by the University of Chicago. The Bears racked up 466 points over the two-day invitational, behind Chicago which won with 564 points.
 
In the first race of the day, the 400 medley relay, the Bears team of Alexander McCormick, Ethan Feng, Jonathan Ma and Kai Taft finished second with a time of 3:24.49. Chicago won in 3:17.30, setting a new meet record and hitting an NCAA B Cut.
 
Senior Mason Kelber finished second to lead the way for the Bears in the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:34.94. Sophomore Ryan Hillery finished second in the B final and 10th overall with a time of 4:35.55. Chicago's Marcell Milo-Sidlo won the field in 4:33.62.
 
Ma, a senior, took second in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 49.28, behind Chicago's Jess Ssengonzi who won in 48.55, setting a new meet record and hitting an NCAA B cut. Junior Austin Bick won the B final, placing ninth overall, with a time of 50.03.
 
Feng, a first-year, finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke, swimming to a time of 2:08.10. Sophomore Danny Sibley finished second in the B final and 10th overall with a time of 2:08.95. Chicago's Garrett Clasen won in 2:04.89.
 
In the mixed 400 freestyle relay, WashU's team of Kelber, Sibley, Anna Fonda and Rin Iimi took third in 3:19.33.
 
Sophomore diver Elliot Polikowski finished six on the 3-meter with 145.55 points. Chicago's Logan Sherwin won with 306.80 points, setting a new meet record.
 
McCormick, a junior, won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.08, breaking his own meet record set last year and hitting an NCAA B cut. Hillery finished first in the B final and ninth overall, swimming to a time of 1:53.26.
 
Bick took second in the 100 freestyle, racing to a time of 45.43, behind Chicago's Arthur Kiselnikov who won in 45.22, setting a new meet record. Kelber took third in the B final and 11th overall with a time of 47.13.
 
Feng was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 IM, taking third with a time of 1:53.90. Taft, a first-year, took second in the B final and 10th overall with a time of 1:55.17. Chicago's Clasen won in 1:50.81, setting a new meet record and hitting an NCAA B cut.
 
In the final race of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, WashU's team of Bick, Ma, Taft and Sibley finished second with a time of 1:23.47.
 
The Bears are back in action on Friday, November 18 when they host Rose-Hulman at 5 p.m.
