No. 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to No. 6 Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team lost to No. 6 Chicago 204-94 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Swimming
The Bears started the day with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Alexander McCormick, Kai Taft, Jonathan Ma and Austin Bick raced to a time of 1:34.29 to notch two points for WashU.
 
Sophomore Ryan Hillery won the field in the 1,000 freestyle, racing to a first-place time of 9:40.42. Kenneth Yeh took fourth in 9:59.20 and first-year Orluke Borjigin rounded out the top five with a time of 10:02.45.
 
Senior Mason Kelber was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 freestyle, taking third in 1:43.50. First-year Ethan Feng finished fourth with a time of 1:43.77.
 
McCormick led the way in the 100 backstroke, taking first in 50.96. Senior Nolan Shields also picked up points for WashU, taking sixth with a time of 55.62.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Kim finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.80 while Nathan Lin took sixth in 59.93.
 
WashU had three of the top five finishers in the 200 butterfly, led by first-year Matthew Walker who took second in 1:54.68. Hillery swam to a third-place time of 1:54.71 and Ma took fifth in 1:55.94.
 
Sophomore Kai Garren was the lone WashU swimmer in the top five in the 50 freestyle, taking fourth with a time of 21.44.
 
Taft was the top Bears' finisher in the 100 freestyle, taking fourth in 47.46 while first-year Reece Bends finished fifth in 47.69.
 
McCormick won his second race of the day in the 200 backstroke, racing to a time of 1:50.43 to lead the field. Shields finished in seventh, notching a point, with a time of 2:02.29.
 
Kim led WashU in the 200 breaststroke, finishing second in 2:08.47. First-year Ethan Feng also finished in the top five, taking third with a time of 2:09.75.
 
WashU had two among the top five in the 500 freestyle, led by Kelber with a fourth-place time of 4:45.37. Borjigin took fifth with a time of 4:45.55.
 
Ma was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 butterfly, racing to a second-place time of 50.76. First-year Andy Zhu rounded out the top five in fifth with a time of 52.33.
 
WashU claimed the top three spots in the 400 IM, led by sophomore Danny Sibley who won in 4:08.04. Feng took second with a time of 4:08.35 and Hillery finished third in 4:11.40.
 
The Bears rounded out the day with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Niko Gomez, Bends, Ma and Taft finished in 1:26.08.
 
Diving
Sophomore Elliot Polikowski finished fifth on the 1-meter with a score of 148.20 and also took fifth on the 3-meter board with a score of 135.22.
 
The Bears head back to Chicago next weekend for the two-day D3 Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
