Box Score Terre Haute, Ind., September 26, 2021 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Rose-Hulman, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Bears are now 7-0-1 on the season heading into UAA play next weekend.
The game-winner was scored just 2:12 into the game as Kate Flynn took a pass from Erin Flynn and found the back of the net. It was Kate Flynn's first career goal at WashU.
The Bears pushed for a second goal throughout the game. Back-to-back shots in the 11th and 13th minutes by Gabbie Cesarone and Gabby Kogler were high and a shot from Emily Kaufman in the 33rd minute was stopped by Rose-Hulman goalkeeper Natalie Dillon.
WashU ended the first half with four shots from Kate Flynn, Jessica Greven, Anna Viscovich and Nicole Gulati, but all were high or wide.
Kogler tested Dillon again in the 55th minute, but the shot was saved. Jolie Carl put a shot on frame in the 58th minute, which was also stopped by Dillon.
A shot from Tyler Wilson in the 64th minute was saved by a Rose-Hulman defender and a shot from Viscovich in the 83rd minute was saved by Dillon.
The Fightin' Engineers registered just one shot on goal. The attempt by Lane Lawrence in the 74th minute was saved by goalkeeper Sidney Conner.
Statistically, WashU outshot Rose-Hulman 18-3 and earned five corner kicks to the Fightin' Engineers zero.
The Bears hit the road to open up UAA play on Saturday with a game at Rochester at 11 a.m. EDT. WashU then returns home for a three-game homestand against Emory on October 10, NYU on October 15 and Brandeis on October 17.
