No. 5 Women's Soccer Blanks UW-Whitewater

Memphis, Tenn., September 18, 2021 – The No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated UW-Whitewater, 3-0, on Saturday at the Rhodes College Challenge Tournament. WashU is now 4-0-1 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Bears put the first goal on the board in the 54th minute, as Tyler Wilson netted her third goal of the year. Wilson has now scored in each of the last three games.

WashU wasted little time in putting up another goal, scoring again quickly also in the 54th minute. This time, it was Riley Alvarez who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

First-year Nicole Gulati scored her first career goal in the 67th minute to put the Bears up, 3-0, over Whitewater.

The Bears had multiple chances in the first half to put a goal on the board, but could not find the back of the net just yet.

In the 19th minute, a shot from Emily Kaufman hit the post, and in the 21st minute, an attempt from Erin Flynn was saved by Whitewater goalkeeper Leah Eisenbarth. Just two minutes later, Ariana Miles had a chance, but Eisenbarth made the play again. WashU had one final on-frame attempted in the 33rd minute, again from Flynn, but Eisenbarth made the save.

WashU outshot Whitewater 10-7 and had seven shots on goal to Whitewater's two. The Bears also registered six corner kicks on the day to Whitewater's three.

In goal, Katie Stender-Moore made two saves in her second start of the year, earning a clean sheet.

WashU is back in action tomorrow to take on the winner of Rhodes and DePauw at 2 p.m.
