Box Score Cleveland, Ohio, October 31, 2021 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team dropped its first game of the season to No. 11 Case Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
The Bears are now 13-1-1 overall with a 5-1-0 mark in UAA play. On Friday, WashU won its third-straight UAA title after defeating Carnegie Mellon.
The eventual game-winner was scored in the 33rd minute of play, as CWRU's Kati Davis took a pass in the middle of the box and fired off a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for her second goal of the season.
The Bears were not without chances, registering 10 total shots with four on goal.
A shot from Riley Alvarez in the sixth minute hit the crossbar and a Tyler Wilson ball in the 21st minute was blocked by a CWRU defender. Gaelen Clayton got a shot off in the 27th minute, which was saved by goalkeeper Maggie Storti.
Shots from Wilson in the 35th minute and Jessica Greven in the 37th minute were also saved by Storti. Greven put another ball on-frame in the in the 41st minute, which was saved.
In the second half, shots from Kate Flynn in the 65th minute and Anna Viscovich in the 79th minute were both blocked by CWRU defenders.
The Bears held CWRU to seven shots with just one on goal, which was ultimately the difference maker. WashU totaled seven corner kicks to the Spartans' three.
WashU wraps up regular-season play next Saturday, November 6 with a 4 p.m. match against Chicago at home.
