No. 3 Women's Soccer and No. 16 Chicago Play to Draw

Chicago, Ill., Nov. 9, 2019 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to force overtime as the Bears played No. 16 University of Chicago to a 1-1 double OT draw Saturday in the Windy City.

WashU finished the regular season with a 15-1-2 record and 6-0-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Chicago dropped to 12-2-3 and 4-1-2 in the conference. The tie snapped the Bears 16-game win streak in the conference back to the 2017 season.

Chicago outshot WashU 13-10 and the Maroons had a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, sophomore Jess Shapiro gathered a loose ball in the box in the 58th minute and delivered the game-tying tally. The goal for Shapiro was her first of the season and fourth of her career.

Junior Emma Greenfield (87:38, four saves) and freshman Katie Stender-Moore (22:22, two saves) split time in goal for WashU.

The 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Selection show is set for Monday, Nov. 11, at Noon (CT). The Bears are making their 14th-straight NCAA appearance and 19th overall.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Chicago, 18-11-3, and the Bears are unbeaten in the series in the last nine meetings … The Bears are 26-6-5 against ranked teams in the last five years … The Bears are 2-1-2 this season in overtime games.
