Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated with Win at Millikin

Decatur, Ill., Sept. 12, 2018 – Junior Taylor Cohen scored a pair of goals and senior Darcy Cunningham added a pair of assists to lead the No. 6-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team to a 5-0 win at Millikin University Wednesday in Decatur, Ill.

WashU improved to 5-0 with the win, while Millikin fell to 0-5. The Bears outshot Millikin 22-1 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Greenfield improved to 5-0 as the defense recorded the fifth shutout of the season. WashU's defense did not allow a shot on goal for the fourth time this season, and the Bears have outscored their opponents 18-0.

The Bears registered the first 10 shots of the game, and scored in the 16thminute after senior Jessica Kovach finished a cross from senior Darcy Cunningham in the 16thminute. 

Cunningham set up the second goal in the 24thminute after she sent in a cross that Cohen finished with a one-timer into the back of the net. The Bears outshot Millikin 11-1 in the first half.

It took WashU just 48 seconds into the second half to score after Cohen scored her second goal on a diving header off a cross from freshman Erin Flynn

In the 59thminute, a quick start after a foul led to a pass from sophomore Katy Mockett to senior Maggie Crist, who drilled a shot from 30 yards out in to the net. 

Junior Jesse Rubinadded her second goal of the season in the 85thminute when she lofted a left-footed shot from 30 yards out.

WashU hosts the Challenge Tournament on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 15-16, at Francis Field. The Bears take on Rhodes College (2-1-1) in the opener Saturday at 11 a.m.

BEAR NOTEBOOK:WashU has won seven all-time meetings between the two teams … The Bears are off to a 5-0 start for the third straight season and 10thtime in school history … The win for head coach Jim Conlon was his 270thwhile coaching women's soccer … WashU is one of 46 remaining teams in NCAA Division III that are undefeated ... The game-winning goal for Kovach was the first of her career.
