No. 13 WashU's Middles Key Road Win at Greenville

Greenville, Ill., Oct. 30, 2018 – The No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team finished with a 3-1 road victory over Greenville University Tuesday evening and a team hitting percentage above .300 for the fourth time this season.

WashU improved to 23-6 overall heading into the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship weekend. Greenville dropped to 21-10 as the Bears combined to hit .302, led by middle hitters – senior Julianne Malek and freshman Caitlin Lorenz.

The duo combined to hit .528 as they both totaled 10 kills apiece, Malek doing so on 16 attempts and Lorenz on 20. Lorenz had her third consecutive match with no attacking errors.

Malek increased her career kill total to 974. Junior libero Zoe Baxter recorded 21 digs and increased her career-total to 1,622.

Set 1: WashU 25 – Greenville 17

The Bears dominated the first set of play committing just two errors while producing 13 kills on 23 attempts for a .478 swing rate. Senior outside hitter Ifeoma Ufondu, Malek and Lorenz each finished the set with three kills apiece and no errors.

WashU had multiple four point swings in the first frame, including the final four points for the 25-17 win. Baxter had an ace on the final stretch and the Bears held Greenville to a match-low .040 hitting percentage.

Set 2: WashU 25 – Greenville 15

Sophomore outside hitter Tricia Brown led the Bears in the second set. She tallied four kills on six attacks and also added two block assists.

Greenville rallied to take an 11-10 lead but WashU retaliated with three straight points. In fact the Bears closed out the set outscoring Greenville 15-4 following the one-point deficit.

Set 3: Greenville 25 – WashU 21

WashU committed seven errors in the third set, falling 25-21. Meanwhile Greenville produced its top hitting percentage of the match, .233, with 11 kills coming from Abby Freeman.

Set 4: WashU 25 – Greenville 17

The Bears' attack returned to form in the final frame, combining for 15 kills on 23 attempts and a .522 success rate. Multiple Bears had multiple kills in the set led by Malek's four while Brown went 3-for-3 and sophomore setter Kirby Knapp was also a perfect 2-of-2.

Knapp led the Bears with 42 assists, averaging more than 10 assists per set played. She also tallied 11 digs.
