Box Score St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 10, 2017 – The No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team posted a 5-0 win over Millikin University Sunday at Francis Field in St. Louis.
WashU improved to 4-0 and ran its unbeaten streak to 18 games, while Millikin suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 4-1.
Sophomore Taylor Cohen netted a pair of goals in the victory to increase her conference-leading total to six. Freshman goalkeeper Emma Greenfield added two assists and helped preserve the second shutout of the season.
The Bears dominated the first half against Millikin, outshooting the Big Blue 17-0. Cohen scored in the 17th minute after she headed home a free kick from Greenfield. Junior Hannah Menard was also credited with an assist on the play.
Greenfield picked up her second assist in the 30th minute after her goal kick snuck through the Millikin defense which led to a breakaway goal for freshman Ellie DeConick.
Cohen added an unassisted goal in the 50th minute, and then senior Alison Cerny (77:56) added freshman Ellie Moreland (78:18) scored 26 seconds apart to round out the scoring.
Greenfield (54:30), sophomore Katy Hutson (24:30) and sophomore Olivia Emanuel (11:00, two saves) combined for the shutout in goal. WashU outshot Millikin 38-3 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
WashU takes on Illinois Wesleyan University (3-1) on Saturday, Sept. 16, in a neural site game in Whitewater, Wis. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU has won six all-time meetings between the two teams … The Bears are 3-0 at home this year, and is unbeaten in their last 24 games at Francis Field … Cohen also leads the conference in points (13).
