Box Score St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 15, 2017 – The No. 2 ranked and defending national champion Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team had its 30-game home unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to No. 10 Carnegie Mellon University on Senior Day Sunday at Francis Field in St. Louis.
Prior to Sunday's contest WashU honored its 10 seniors – Mariana Alisio, Elise Brown, Alison Cerny, Kat Kerska, Mia Mastroianni, Rachel Mickelson, Gillian Myers, Megan Renken, Kelly Von Zup and Megan Wolf.
Carnegie Mellon improved to 9-2-2, 2-1-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU had its 27-game unbeaten streak snapped and dropped to 12-1-1, 3-1 in the UAA
Carnegie Mellon bottled up the WashU offense in the first half, and outshot the Bears 6-2. The Tartans did not give up a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Haili Adams had the lone goal of the game on a breakaway in the 14th minute. The goal for Adams was her team-leading ninth of the season.
Sophomore back Hannah Menard led the Bears with three shots, including a pair of headers that just went wide of the goal.
WashU was outshot 13-6 and each team had three corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Emma Greenfield (8-1) made two saves and took the loss.
The Bears have 11 days off before opening a three-game road trip at No. 22 Brandeis University (10-2-2, 2-1-1 UAA) on Friday, Oct. 27. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) in Waltham, Mass.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Carnegie Mellon 20-4-2, and the Tartans snapped an 11-game losing streak … The Bears trailed for only the second time this season … WashU is 10-1-1 against ranked teams the last two years … It marked the Bears' first loss at home since Nov. 15, 2014.
