In his role, Lenz provides leadership to a comprehensive recreation program and professional staff that oversees aquatics, member services, fitness and wellness programming, outdoor trips, club sports, intramural sports and sports camps.

Additionally, Lenz has ultimate oversight for six recreation facilities: Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center; South 40 Fitness Center; South Campus; (2) intramural fields; and the boathouse at Creve Coeur Lake.

Lenz also serves as the sport administrator for the co-ed club-varsity rowing program as well as the championship coordinator for NCAA post-season competitions.  Finally, Lenz is responsible for coordinating the physical education academic program through the School of Arts & Sciences.

Upon his arrival in 2015, Lenz contributed to the final design of the award-winning Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center along with building the staff and developing the programs that would animate the first ever comprehensive recreation center at Washington University. Since the Sumers Recreation Center’s grand opening in October 2016, the facility and its programming has won numerous NIRSA creative excellence awards and has evolved to engage 93% of undergraduate students and nearly 60% of graduate and professional students spread across two campuses.

Lenz arrived on the Danforth campus after spending ten years at University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. He served as the Director for Recreation for three years (2012-15), and he also spent time as the Associate Director (2011-12), Assistant Director for Sports and Competition (2007-11), and Coordinator for Sports and Competition (2005-07).

Lenz earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in sport management from University of the Pacific.

He is a member of NIRSA and RCRSP (Registry for Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals), and is a Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified instructor.

Lenz and his wife Alexandra are proud parents of son, Vander, and daughter, Emery, and they reside in University City, Mo.
