St. Louis, Mo. Nov. 16, 2019 – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team scored early and often in the first half in a 4-0 win over Maryville (Tenn.) College in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship Saturday at Francis Olympic Field.
WashU, which extended its unbeaten streak to 15 matches, improved to 16-1-2 with the win. Maryville, who was making its 10 NCAA appearance, had its season come to an end with a 15-5 mark.
WashU advances to take on the winner of Adrian College and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Sunday at 1 p.m. in the NCAA Second Round.
The Bears scored twice in the opening nine minutes of play to jump in front 2-0. Sophomore Ariana Miles (7:59) and senior Taylor Cohen (8:59) each scored unassisted goals in a span of 60 seconds for WashU.
WashU outshot Maryville 34-7 for the game, including 20-3 in the opening half.
