Gordon Reiter enters his 13th season as an assistant coach with the Washington University in St. Louis track & field program.
Reiter primarily works with the "Four Eight Group" (middle distance specialist in 800m, DMR, and 4x4 relays). During his tenure, several members of the this group have achieved 41 individual All-American finishes at the NCAA Division III Indoor/Outdoor Championships.
Notably, among these are individual National Champions: Emma Kelley (800m indoors and outdoors, 2023), and Deko Ricketts (800m indoors and outdoors, 2017). The relay National Champions include: Emily Warner (4x4, 2016), Alex Bastian and Deko Ricketts (DMR, 2016), Kelli Hancock and Ashley Knudson (DMR, 2017), John Harry Wagner (4x4, 2019), Ally Sarussi and Aoife Dunne (DMR, 2023), Danielle Schultz (2024). Also training with the Four Eight Group were members of the 2017 Women's Indoor and Outdoor NCAA DIII Championship Team: Annalise Wagner, Anna Cosio, Kelli Hancock, and Ashley Knudson.
In 2024, Emma Kelley defended her 800m titles (indoor and outdoor), added the outdoor 400m national title and claimed National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year honors. Kelley, along with teammates Danielle Schultz and Ally Sarussi, contributed 44 points in winning the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Team Championship. Following both the 2024 indoor and outdoor seasons, Reiter was named the 2024 NCAA Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year.
Prior to joining WashU, Reiter was the cross country and track & field head coach at Missouri Baptist University (MBU). He coached 11 NAIA All-Americans, including PanAmerican 400m hurdler, Junior Hines, and nine-time All-American, Olympic trials steeplechase (B) qualifier, Meagan Hudson. During his five years at MBU, he was named AMC Cross Country Coach of the Year (2008) and MBU Athletics Coach of the Year (2010).
Reiter also served as the cross country and track & field head coach at Maryville University from 2003-05. He also was a coach of Parkway South High School for 28 years where he helped develop many Missouri All-State athletes, while serving as a physical education and health instructor at Sorrento Springs Elementary.Â
From 1973-2002, Reiter was a physical education teacher/track and field coach in the Parkway School District. Reiter developed many All-State athletes whiles coaching at Parkway Central and Parkway South high schools.
Reiter was a graduate assistant cross country and track and field coach at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) from 1972-73.
Reiter is a 1972 SEMO graduate with a bachelors degree in physical education and heath, and went on to obtain his masters in teaching, physical education, and recreation in 1976.
In 2013, Reiter was selected into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
In addition to coaching, Reiter has earned four straight decades of national top 10 rankings in the 800m as a Master’s track & field competitor dating back to 1981.
Reiter resides in Kirkwood, Mo and spends most of his free time attending high school football, soccer, and track meets supporting his grandkids. He also officiates high school cross country and track and field meets. Other pastimes include recreational activities, such as: golf, personal fitness, and competing in the 800m, 400m, and multi-events at USATF Masters Track and Field meets.
