Shad Nichols enters his second season as an assistant coach with the WashU women's basketball team in 2019-20 after joining head coach Randi Henderson's staff in the fall of 2018.
He helped guide the Bears to the NCAA Sectional Finals in his first year on the coaching staff in 2018-19 as WashU extended its streak to 30-consecutive NCAA Tournament berths.
Nichols joined the Bears staff after serving as the program director and varsity girls’ basketball coach at Principia School for nine seasons, where he holds the best all-time winning percentage in school history across all sports with a .663-percentage (163-83).
During Nichols tenure, the Panthers had a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and 18 individuals went on to play collegiately.
In addition to serving as the varsity basketball coach, Nichols was the athletic director of Principia’s athletic programs. He was responsible for scheduling, managing and organizing more than 50 teams.
Prior to Principia, he was the athletic director and physical education teacher at Berkeley Hall School in Los Angeles. He also founded Left Coast Adventures in LA.
Nichols has a M.S. in Physical Education from Eastern Washington University, and a bachelor’s degree from Principia College in sports management.
Currently, he resides in St. Louis, Mo. with his wife Kelly and their three daughters, Ace, Avery, and Adeline.
