Assistant coach, Alan Farmer, joined the Washington University men’s tennis staff in August 2023. Prior to WashU, Farmer served as Whitfield High School’s head tennis coach during the 2022-2023 season following a two-year stent as assistant tennis coach at Saint Louis University. 
 
Farmer retired in 2020 from Oakville High School, where he taught business for 31 years and coached boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity tennis. He was the school’s business department chairperson from 2002 until his retirement. 

Farmer served as a tennis professional at Carmel Valley (Calif.) Racquet Club in 1988 and at Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis in 1989. 

Farmer was the 1983 Metro East Player of the Year as a senior at Belleville East High School, and he earned a spot on the St. Louis national junior team. He went on to play at Murray State, where he garnered All-Conference singles and doubles honors in 1986 and helped the Racers win three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference championships. Farmer continued to compete as a highly ranked singles and doubles player in St. Louis open tournaments throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. 

Following a transfer to Southern Illinois, Farmer completed work on a bachelor’s degree in business education in 1988. He earned a master’s degree in education at National Louis University in 1993. 

Farmer and his wife, Kari, reside in Columbia, Ill., and are the parents of daughters Kassi and Kalli and son Korbin. Kassi played softball at Indiana, while Kalli and Korbin played softball and basketball, respectively, at Millikin.
