THE SERIES – WashU leads the all-time series with Millikin 4-2. The Bears posted a 49-42 win on Nov. 3, 2018 on Decatur, Ill. in the first meeting between the two teams since 1975.
THE COACHES – WashU head coach Larry Kindbom (Kalamazoo, 1974) is in his 31st season leading the Bears, with a record of 191-118 (.618). His 191 wins rank him as the all-time winningest coach at WashU. Overall, in 37 seasons, Kindbom has a 219-148-1 (.596) overall record and has led the Bears to 13 conference titles and three NCAA Division III playoff appearances. He announced on Sept. 11 that he will be retiring at the end of the 2019 season.
Millikin head coach Dan Gritti (Vanderbilt, 1995) is 21-17 (.553) in four seasons leading the Big Blue. Prior to his stop at Millikin, Gritti recorded a 29-19 (.604) record in five seasons at Rhodes College. Overall, he has a 50-36 (.581) record in nine seasons as a collegiate coach.
CLASS OF 2019 – WashU will honor its 22 senior football players during a pre-game ceremony Saturday at Francis Olympic Field. This year's senior class holds an overall record of 25-13 (.658), captured the 2016 University Athletic Association (UAA) championship, the 2016 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title and made an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Playoffs.
HURLEY NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Junior defensive back Will Hurley was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and University Athletic Association (UAA) Special Teams Athlete of the Week. Hurley was all over the field for the WashU special teams' unit in WashU's 35-14 win over Augustana Saturday. He had a 28-yard punt return for a TD with 10:06 left in the second quarter to put the Bears up 21-0. Hurley also had a tackle on the kickoff team, and was also the holder on a fake field goal which resulted in a first down that led to the Bears' fourth TD.
